Graded 35 GD+ 3.5 by SGC. Hall of Famer. Philadelphia Caramel Company's E95 cards faced intense competition – from rival candy manufacturers as well as tobacco companies – upon their release in 1909. Although many of the competing producers recycled similar card designs with their own advertising on the backs, or based their cards on stock photographs, Philadelphia Caramel issued intriguing productions that were heavily based on fresh and unique likenesses. The most popular of the company's efforts, E95, is represented here by a fabulous portrait of Ty Cobb. His pose is striking and its colors are stunning. Uniform rounding is evident on the corners; minor creasing affects the lower right corner, and there is a degree of additional creasing along the bottom-edge frame line. The reverse, which features a checklist for the entire set, is relatively clean and fully legible. Good-plus condition, with solid presentation quality.
