Even in his 40s, as demonstrated here, Denton True Young could still swing a mighty bat. One of the better-hitting pitchers of his day, he amassed over 600 lifetime hits, 18 home runs and nearly 300 RBIs—not to mention 29 stolen bases. His finest offensive campaign came in 1896, with career highs of three home runs, 11 doubles and 31 runs scored. Young also recorded a bases-clearing triple in the 1903 World Series! According to this Cleveland Naps uniform style, this phenomenal action photo by master photographer Paul Thompson dates to a road game in either 1910 or 1911. It bears the usual peripheral handling wear of newsroom usage, along with a few small chips to the image area. Thompson's stamp appears on the reverse along with a penciled editorial caption, "Old Cy Young / Cleve." Assessed as Type I by PSA/DNA.
