Known as “The Game”, the Harvard-Yale football rivalry dates back to 1874 and still continues strong today. Even during the early days, the teams did not like each other, which came to a head during the 1894 contest at the neutral site Hampden Park in Springfield, Massachusetts. Hampden Park had hosted the contest from 1890 – 1894. Newspapers of the day reported the seven players were carried off the field in near-death condition, which led this particular game to be referred to as the “Hampden Park Bloodbath”. After the game, the schools put an end to the game, only to resume two years later and played alternately at each school.
Offered is this very rare ticket stub from the “Hampden Park Bloodbath” game. The ticket is for “SPECIAL RESERVED SEAT SECTION F” on the “Harvard Side” in “Row I Seat 3”. On both segments of the ticket, printed in black is “Harvard vs. Yale” with the right side printing “November 24th 1894.” The ticket is in good condition and has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA (26297186) and has been graded AUTHENTIC.
