Nicknamed “Double X”, Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx was the American League MVP three times and finished his career with 534 home runs during his time with the Philadelphia Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies. Presented in this lot are a signed card from the New York World’s Fair and an unsigned Perez Steele Galleries Postcard.
This 3 x 4 ¼ inch “Laurel Card” from the New York World’s Fair, has been signed by Jimmie Fox on the “Instructor of the day” dotted line in bold black ink. The card reads “This certifies that Gus Curran of Brooklyn, N.Y. attended class in SCHOOL of BASEBALL”. The names of “Gus Curran” and “Brooklyn, N.Y” are hand written in black ink. This card has three wrinkles and some minor staining, but is otherwise good condition and the signature of Foxx is clear. This has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA (83918977) and graded as AUTHENTIC.
The 3 ½ x 5 ½ inch Perez Steel card depicts Jimmie Foxx in his Philadelphia Athletics jersey and hat in full color with a smaller image of the slugger in black and white on a swing follow-through. “JIMMY FOXX” is boldly printed on the bottom right corner with “PEREZ” appearing below the Foxx swing. The back of the card is white with green print and is labeled “SECOND SERIES SET No: 04539/10,000”.
