Offered are two programs from the 1926 and 1927 World Series featuring the New York Yankees. The first program is from the 1926 World Series, where the St. Louis Cardinals won in a dramatic seven game series, culminating when Babe Ruth was thrown out in the ninth inning of Game seven when attempting to steal second base. This program is from Game 2, when HOFer Grover Cleveland “Pete” Alexander shutdown the vaunted Yankee lineup; limiting Ruth, Gehrig and Co. to two runs on four hits. Ol’ Pete went the distance – no closer or set up men needed. The pre-printed lineups include Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Combs, and Meusel for New York, and Hornsby, Bottomley, Hafey, and Alexander for St. Louis. This large format (9.25 x 11 inch) program features portraits of each participant. This program’s cover is missing and there are slight tears of the paper on the right side and the binding is loose with the original staples still intact.
The second program comes from the 1927 World Series where the Yankees swept the Pittsburgh Pirates, marking the first time an American League team had swept a National League team. This 20-page program was issued for either Game 3 or Game 4 of the 1927 World Series between the Yankees and Pirates at Yankee Stadium. The cover features large portrait images of each club's respective manager, Miller Huggins and Owen Bush, while the interior pages include photos of league and team officials, as well as portraits of twenty-five members of both the Yankees and Pirates. The un-scored pre-printed lineups include Ruth, Gehrig, Lazzeri, Meusel, Combs, and Pennock for New York, and P. Waner, L. Waner, and Traynor for Pittsburgh. This program’s cover is missing and there are slight tears of the paper on the right side and the binding is loose with the original staples still intact. Also handwritten in blue marker appears to be “Anela”.
