After making his return to the New York Mets for the 1983 season, Hall of Famer Tom Seaver was expecting to finish out his career where it began. However, in a surprise move the Chicago White Sox claimed Seaver in the free-agent compensation draft when he was left unprotected by the Mets thinking that no other team would go after a high-priced 39-year-old pitcher. Instead of retiring, Seaver joined the White Sox, where he pitched for two seasons.

     This cream colored pullover Chicago White Sox home jersey was worn by Seaver during the 1984 Spring Training, his first with the club. This Medalist Sand-Knit size 46 jersey is in the mid 1980s design that has thick horizontal two red and one navy blue stripe across the chest and sleeves. “SOX” is sewn across the chest in white tackle twill on the blue stripe of the horizontal red/blue/red stripe. The v-neck collar has a ribbed navy blue and red border with the left sleeve having the “1983 All-Star Game 50th Anniversary” patch. The back of the jersey has “SEAVER” and his number “41” sewn on in navy blue directly to the jersey. This jersey was originally worn by pitcher Dick Tidrow in 1983 as evidence by his name residue slightly showing where it was removed and Seaver’s added, a common practice for teams with their spring training jerseys. Also present on this jersey is the original player identification patches sewn on the inner center back tail that read “83 * 46Z TIDROW”.

     Seaver signed his name in blue marker on the front of the jersey below the “SOX” striping. This jersey shows moderate wear and displays toning from age. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AA07827) for his signature and comes with a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
