In his first 10 seasons in the Major Leagues with the New York Mets, Hall of Famer Tom Seaver led the National League in strikeouts five times and was the National League Cy Young Award winner in 1969, 1973 and 1975. Seaver also led the Mets to the “Miracle” 1969 World Series Title and the 1973 National League Pennant. On June 15, 1977, Seaver was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for four players in which New York reporters referred to it, along with the Dave Kingman trade as the “Midnight Massacre”. Subsequently, the Mets started their downward spiral to finish out the decade until their return to the upper echelon of teams in the mid 1980s.

      After spending five-plus quality seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, first ballot Hall of Famer Seaver made his triumphant return to New York in 1983 with the Mets, before finishing his career with the White Sox and Red Sox.
