He was known simply as “The Kid” and also known as “The Natural”. With his smooth swing and graceful style, and the ever present smile on his face, Ken Griffey, Jr. rightly wore those pleasant monikers. No other player in the 1990’s was as exciting to watch as Seattle’s recently elected Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr.
Griffey’s 1996 season was a typical stellar year belting 49 home runs with 140 RBI and batting .303 in 140 games. This home white button-down size 46 Russell Athletic Mariners jersey was worn by Junior during the 1996 season. Showing light game use with some staining, this jersey features “MARINERS” sewn on across the chest in navy blue, teal and off-white tackle twill. Navy blue piping runs along the collar and down both sides of the buttons, while the left sleeve has a circular “SEATTLE MARINERS” patch and the right sleeve has the navy blue embroidered Russell Athletic logo. The back of the jersey has “GRIFFEY” sewn on in navy blue and teal on a matching white name plate while his number “24” is sewn on in navy blue. The Russell Athletic tag, “1996” tag and (2” EXTRA BODY LENGTH) flag are sewn on the bottom front left tail. Griffey signed his name in black marker on the upper left chest and inscribed “24”. This jersey comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AA07813) for his signature and a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema.
