On September 16, 1996 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO, Minnesota Twins designated hitter Paul Molitor stepped to the plate in the top of the 5th inning. Molitor entered the game with 2,998 career hits, and had added to that total with a single in the first inning. Now, with the Twins leading the host Royals 3-0, with one-out and the bases empty, Molitor stroked a 0-2 pitch to right-center field that fell in the gap. Molitor had his historic 3,000 hit, but as the ball caromed away from centerfielder Rod Myers, “The Ignitor” never let up, chugging around second and sliding headfirst into third base to become the 21st member of the 3,000 Hit Club, and the first to ever reach the famed plateau with a 3-base hit. Molitor would finish his Hall of Fame career with 3,319 hits, good for 8th on the all-time list, and he currently sits at No. 9. This Kansas City Royals full ticket to that game on September 16th has been signed in sharp blue marker by Paul Molitor across the center. The ticket has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA (24896288) and been graded “GEM MT 10”.
