In the emotionally charged period following the tragedy of 9/11, the New York Yankees provided a welcome bit of relief for their grieving city by taking the 2001 American League pennant. The team came up short in the seven-game World Series that followed, however, falling in defeat to the Arizona Diamondbacks. (The Yankees did come within two outs of becoming the first club in more than forty years to record four consecutive championships.) This lot of (2) Official 2001 World Series baseballs have each been team-signed in blue ink by (34) members of that nearly historic club. Notable signatures include Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Mike Mussina, Paul O’Neill, Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre, and many more. This lot has been pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
