In 1973, Bo Schembechler's 5th year, Michigan went undefeated for the first time since 1948, yet after tying with OSU in the final game, it was the Buckeyes who were anointed to play in the Rose Bowl, due to a controversial vote by the Big Ten's athletic directors. Newly sworn-in Vice President Gerald Ford, a one-time Wolverine star, publicly aired his feelings about the injustice: "On the basis of that game with Ohio State, Michigan should have gone. Look at the statistics. Michigan was the better team in that game. Michigan won the first, third and fourth quarters and Ohio State won the second. Look at the records, Michigan won 10 games and Ohio State won nine and each had a tie." Manufactured by Jostens, safety Gregory Koss's 10K-gold, size 11 ring features a gold "M" inlaid in a blue stone with nice shank designs of the stadium and an enameled Wolverine helmet. NM condition.
