Poosh 'Em Up Tony played in three straight World Series from 1926 to 1928, racking up 12 hits with three doubles and five RBIs. Underwood & Underwood's red-variety paper caption here refers to the team as "champion," which could mean their 1927 world championship (hence pinpointing the photo to 1928), or it could merely recognize their AL pennant title in any of those three years. The text reads, "TONY LAZZERI, INFIELDER NEW YORK AMERICANS. Tony Lazzeri, dependable infielder of the champion New York American League baseball team, gets ready for the world's series by throwing a few fast ones." The 8 x10 inch photo from photographer Charles M. Conlon shows typical minor peripheral handling wear from newsroom usage and carries Bettmann Archive over-labels on the reverse. This photograph comes with a LOA for Type I from PSA/DNA (1P06491).
