Recently, the New York Yankees announced that they would retire Derek Jeter’s number “2.” Few players are as deserving of this honor as “The Captain,” who is the Yankees all-time leader in games, hits, doubles, and stolen bases. Jeter wrapped up his tremendous career in 2014, after 14 All-Star appearances, five Gold Gloves, five Silver Sluggers, and five World Series titles. Jeter is destined for enshrinement in the National Baseball Hall of Fame as soon as he is eligible in 2020. The career statistics that Jeter accrued are incredible. His 3,465 hits rank sixth all-time, and his .310 batting average in an era of dominant pitching also stands out. Soon the Hall of Fame will have another pinstriped inductee.
This size 48 Majestic button-down New York Yankees home pinstripe jersey was worn by Jeter during the 2005 season, when he hit .309 with 19 home runs and 70 RBI. He was not elected to the All-Star team that season, but Jeter finished 10th in MVP voting. This jersey features the Yankees’ interlocking “NY” logo sewn on the front left breast in navy blue tackle twill. Jeter’s soon-to-be retired “2” is sewn on the back in navy blue tackle twill, underneath an MLB logo sewn on the back collar. A Majestic tag with “2005” and “[size] 48” flags is sewn on the front left tail. This jersey comes with a full LOA from MEARS, who graded this item a perfect A10.
