Presented here is the famous photograph of New York Giants’ Willie Mays’ catch over Cleveland Indians batter Vic Wertz during Game 1 of the 1954 World Series. In many stadiums, Wertz’ would have had a home run, however the Polo Ground’s stadium in Upper Manhattan was larger than average, allowing Mays to make an on the run over-the-shoulder catch, preventing The Indians from taking the lead. The Giants would go on to sweep the Indians in the World Series 4 – 0.
This black and white photograph depicts this legendary catch. It stands 20 x 16 inches unframed. Willie Mays himself has autographed the picture in bold blue ink. Included with this piece is a COA from JSA (G99923).
