In our August 2016 Live Auction, Mike Kuyper's iconic 2008 Phillies Championship stadium scene ("Phinally!") reached a record price of $9,600. Here, Kuyper has hit another one out of the park with this ultimate homage to Fenway Park. The day is October 2, 1983, as 44-year-old Carl Yastrzemski strides to the plate one last time in his then-record 3,308th game. In earlier innings, he has singled and walked—not to mention been kissed in left field by a female admirer. Yaz's father, brother and son have taken turns announcing his name from public-address announcer Sherm Feller's booth. After the 3-1 win, an emotional #8 doffs his cap and circles the field. "I came to love Fenway," he once said. "It was a place that rejuvenated me after a road trip; the fans right on top of you, the nutty angles. And the Wall. That was my baby, the left-field wall, the Green Monster." From the Monster to the Triangle to Williamsburg to the Citgo Sign to the game-accurate scoreboard to Yaz's smiling face up there on the Jumbotron, Kuyper's 24 x 40 inch creation perfectly captures the spirit and essence of the national treasure that is Fenway Park.
