Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris traded home runs in their quest to break Babe Ruth’s single season record, with Maris clubbing 61 on the way to his second consecutive MVP award. These two sluggers propelled the Yankees to 109 regular season wins and yet another World Series title, a 4-1 victory against the Cincinnati Reds.
The items offered here are an issue of Life magazine and a Yankees yearbook, both from 1961. The issue of Life features Mantle and Maris on the cover, as well as an article “Will Yank Sluggers Smash 60 Homers” inside the magazine. The Yankee yearbook is a pristine piece of Yankee history, and features information about this edition of the Yankee team.
