Hundreds of thousands from all walks of life welcomed the pontiff in Philadelphia two summers ago for the World Meeting of Families Papal Mass. To mark the historic occasion, Philly-based word artist Dan Duffy created this divine pen-and-ink portrait, with a portion of proceeds from print sales going to the Philabundance anti-hunger organization. Incredibly, Pope Francis is constructed entirely from the text of Matthew 5:7—the fifth verse of the Sermon on the Mount, as well as of the Beatitudes. Not a single outline, contour, shadow, or even strand of hair derives from anything other than the holy words of this sacred verse, which perfectly encapsulate the Pope's message of love, compassion and forgiveness. Above all, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven...Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth...Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy." Duffy concludes the intricate, inspiring piece with the prominent final line, "GOD BLESS POPE FRANCIS." Dimensions are a large 26 x 21 inches and nicely framed to 33 x 28 inch dimension.
