     Offered here is a 5% bond certificate issued by the Chinese government in 1913. Printed in English, French, German, and Russian, this bond is for a total loan of £25,000,000 Sterling. The certificate the bond is issued in is very ornate, and features a centerpiece of the Greek god Hermes seated beside an engine. This document was signed by the Chinese Minister of Finance, the Chinese Minister in London, and an unidentified representative of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation in London. The certificate is framed by vignettes of farmers in rice paddies and an elegant pagoda. Also included are 43 individual coupons. This item comes with a University Archives LOA.
