One of baseball’s most well-liked figures, Tommy Lasorda maintained friendships across baseball and beyond despite his great success as the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. One of his friendships outside of baseball was with the renowned artist LeRoy Neiman, who drew this portrait for his friend Tommy. This pastel portrait less abstract many Neiman drawings, but still captures the magic that imbues our national pastime. Lasorda is shown standing at the top of his dugout, arms crossed, in a Dodgers home jersey. This painting has a timeless quality and could depict Lasorda at any time in his illustrious 20-year career as the manager of the Dodgers.
Neiman inscribed this portrait “Of and for Tommy/Your Friend LeRoy” in black pen. In addition, he inscribed “Tommy Lasorda Los Angeles Dodgers Manager” in grey pencil, above his signature, also in grey pencil. This portrait is 12 ½ x 16 inches and comes in a 19 ¾ x 23 ½ inch brown wooden frame. This item comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (AC44088).
