Winter Auction 2017 Ending January 28
Presented here is the biggest, most desirable modern-day hockey card in existence. Here is superstar Sidney Crosby's "The Cup" rookie card, a phenomenally important "3-color" signed relic collectible.
"The Cup" Crosby entry in the 2005/06 Upper Deck release is limited to an edition of just 99 pieces. (The offered collectible is serial-numbered, "59/99.") A congratulatory statement from Upper Deck appears on the card's reverse side; this declaration attests to the signature's authenticity, verifies the origin of the card's "patch" component, and serves as the COA for the subject item.
Graded GEM MINT 9.5 by BGS, with a Beckett 10 Autograph. (Crosby's blue marker signature presents beautifully, consistent with its grade, and he has added his uniform number, "87.") BGS has quantified the piece's condition attributes as follows: Centering/9.5; Corners/9; Edges/9.5; Surface/10.
The ultimate in exclusivity, this card is the only 3-color Crosby example that exists at the BGS GEM MINT 9.5 tier. It must be noted that these extremely thick cards are very tough to grade, and they are typically found off-centered.
A 1-color, BGS GEM MINT 9.5 example sold at the 2014 Cleveland National for $55,000.00. An ungraded 3-color specimen changed hands at the same show for $78,000.00. The sought-after 3-colors are virtually never seen: it's estimated that only eighteen cards among the 99-piece edition possess the 3-color distinction, and almost all are securely held in private collections. (Eighty-two of the 99 cards are being hoarded by five collectors, with four of these individuals residing in Canada.)
