Lou Gehrig was one of the greatest hitters of all-time, a workhorse first baseman who could mash a ball just as well as his famous teammate Babe Ruth. Along with Ruth, Gehrig formed the heart of the New York Yankees famed “Murderers Row” lineup in the late 1920s. Gehrig previously held the record for most consecutive games played, with 2,130, before Cal Ripken Jr. surpassed his mark. A prodigious power hitter, the two time AL MVP Gehrig hit 493 home runs in his career, including a then-record 23 grand slams. “The Iron Horse” was not a one trick pony, as his career batting average of .340, in the top 20 of all-time. Tragically, Gehrig was struck down at the age of 37 by a case of incurable ALS, which would bear his name.
Offered here is a cut signed by Lou Gehrig, presented in a framed display with a photograph of the man himself. The cut is signed in grey pencil, and is positioned beneath a photograph of a smiling Gehrig. This item comes with a JSA LOA (Y87683).
