By the mid-1960’s, Willie Mays was the number one contender for surpassing Babe Ruth’s career home run record. Each season since 1954 Mays was good for 30 to 50 homers and he slugged a league-leading 47 homers in 1964. Also leading the NL in slugging, Mays solidified his standing as the game’s most exciting player and set the plate for his 1965 MVP season. Mays’ 1964 Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bat is un-cracked and displays outstanding use. “MAYS” is stamped in block letters on the barrel. The barrel has checking from repeated ball contact and several ball marks with stitch impressions are visible on the barrel. Blue and green bat rack paint streaks are visible and a moderate coat of pine tar is found mid-handle. The model number “S2” is stamped into the knob end. This bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B09232) for the game use, with a grade of GU 6.
