No season in recent baseball history was as exciting as 1998’s single-season home run race. All summer, St. Louis’ Mark McGwire, Seattle’s Ken Griffey Jr. and Chicago’s Sammy Sosa battled it out, each striving to break the most famous record in the game. Big Mac eventually emerged the victor, hitting the record breaking homer on September 8th and adding eight more by the time the season ended. This Rawlings MAC25 model bat was used by McGwire during that historic summer. The bat shows excellent use and is un-cracked. Several ball marks with stitch impressions are visible on the barrel along with black ink transfers and black and green bat rack paint streaks. A moderate coat of pine tar is on the handle and the model number “MAC25”, order number “347” and year “98” are stamped into the knob. The weight “33” and “McGwire” are hand written on the knob in black marker. This bat comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (1B01582) for the game use, with a grade of GU 7.
