It is very rare that baseball fans can unanimously agree on one subject, but every baseball fan believes that Gil Hodges should be in the Hall of Fame. After his fifteenth and final appearance on the ballot, Hodges only received 63 percent of the votes, 12 percent shy of the 75% necessary for induction. Hodges hit 370 home runs over his 18 year career with the Dodgers and Mets, and was named to 8 All-Star teams. Tragically, Hodges passed away at the young age of 47.
The item offered here is a payroll check from the 1956 season made out to Hodges from the Brooklyn Dodgers. It is for the value of $2,429.21, a small portion of Hodges’ $35,000 salary that season. The check is dated May 14, 1956. Hodges signed the back of the check with his full name, Gilbert R. Hodges. The check is encapsulated by PSA/DNA, and, besides the punched holes in the check, is in excellent condition.
