The United States hockey team shocked the world in 1960 with their gold medal triumph at the Squaw Valley Olympics. Coming into the Squaw Valley Games, the US Hockey team was ranked behind the countries of Canada, the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Sweden. The US would win all seven games of the tournament, including winning all five games of the Medal Round against Sweden, Germany, Canada, the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia to take home the gold.

Entering the 1964 Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria as defending champions, the US Hockey team was not able to re-capture the magic of 1960 as they finished in fifth place. Bill Christian, who was on both the 1960 and 1964 teams wore this very rare white knit jersey during the 1964 games. “USA” is prominently displayed across the chest in red and blue tackle twill with white stitching. Each sleeve and the bottom of the jersey has blue and red striping and the upper left chest has a “U*S*A” badge style patch outlined in yellow. The blue shoulders accent the jersey, with a red collar that opens to a v-neck style with lace holes. The back of the jersey has Christian’s number “5” sewn on in red and blue tackle twill with white stitching. The number “5” is also sewn on each sleeve below the blue shoulders in red and blue tackle twill with white stitching. Christian wore the number “6” during the 1960 games. The jersey displays heavy game use with what appears to be remnants of a blood stain on the front, various soil marks on the sleeves and some holes on the front and back stripes. The jersey also displays toning due to age and appears more as an off-white color.

This is a chance to own a significant piece of US Hockey history as Christian was the fifth leading scoring during the 1960 games with 13 points and chipped in with six points during the 1964 games. Christian was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 1984 and the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 1998. His son Dave was also a key member of the 1980 “Miracle On Ice” Gold Medal winning team that also shook the hockey world. This jersey comes with a full LOA from Bill Christian, authenticating this jersey’s use by him during the 1964 Olympics.
