     The first Cy Young award was given out in 1956 to Brooklyn Dodgers hurler Don “Newk” Newcombe. Newcombe, the first African-American pitcher to win 20 games in a season, also picked up MVP honors in 1956 after a dominating 27-win season. Newk was selected to four All-Star teams in his 10-year career.

     He signed this ball on the sweet spot in blue ballpoint pen. He added the inscriptions “Cy Young 1956,” “NL ROY 1949,” “NL MVP 1956” and “55 World Champs.” This item received a grade of 7.5 from PSA/DNA (autograph grade 8, baseball grade 7) and comes with a PSA/DNA COA (P67633).
