There have been players who hit more home runs than Willie Mays, and others have stolen more bases or had higher batting or fielding averages, but no one in the history of the game could excel in all those things equally as the “Say Hey Kid”. For more than two decades, Willie Mays demonstrated pure excellence in every facet of the game, becoming the perfect five-tool player. These cleats date to the 1972-73 seasons, his last years with the New York Mets as he was putting the finish touches on his Hall of Fame credentials.

Since these shoes date to the period before players were inundated with countless free pairs of cleats each season, these early 1972-73 Adidas cleats show great game use. As befits the cleats of the greatest five-tool player in the game, the pair have many abrasions and scuff marks throughout showing even wear. The leather has been coated with black shoe polish, including over the trademark white stripes and accents to present a more uniform appearance. The soles show good even wear with the cleats intact and some ballpark turf still present after four decades. The Adidas label in each cleat is worn but still attached and best of all, each one sports Willie’s famed number “24” hand written in black marker. These cleats come with a full LOA from MEARS for the game use.
