1969 was a year of baseball milestones. Besides being the 100th Anniversary of professional baseball, the year saw the perennial underdog New York Mets win it all and it also saw Willie Mays hit his 600th career home run. Today there are eight players who have reached that lofty number, but back in the summer of 1969 only one - Babe Ruth - had hit that many homers.

This perfect San Francisco Giants flannel was issued to the second member of the 600 Home Run Club for use on the road during the 1969 season. The classic jersey has “SAN FRANCISCO” arched across the chest in black felt on orange tackle twill letters. Orange and black trip rings the neck and arm edges. The McAuliffe label is sewn in the lower left front tail with size “42” and “69” year tagging. “Mays” is chain stitched in orange on a white strip tag sewn below the manufacturer’s label. The left sleeve sports the 100th Anniversary of Baseball patch in red, white and blue. The back of the jersey has Mays’ famous number “24” in black felt on orange tackle twill.

The jersey was issued to Mays but appears never to have been worn in a game. The grey flannel is flawless and the orange and black lettering pop off the surface. The MLB patch on the sleeve is in a fine condition rarely seen on surviving 1969 gamers. The five-tool Hall of Famer has signed the right front tail of the jersey in blue marker. The pristine condition of this vintage flannel combined with a perfect Mays signature combines to make this a visually stunning piece of baseball history. This jersey comes with a full LOA from noted game used jersey expert Dave Miedema for the game use and has been pre-certified from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for the signature.
