Offered here is an entry in the “Baseball Card That Never Was” series. This piece is an interpretation of a 1948 Leaf Baseball card featuring Roberto Clemente. Clemente did not begin his career until 1955, so it is merely wishful thinking to place him in a card set with greats such as Satchel Paige and Jackie Robinson. This beautiful canvas painting features Clemente in his gorgeous Pirates uniform in front of a seafoam green background. The 1948 Leaf Series was noted for its minimalism, and this is a faithful reproduction of what a Clemente Leaf card would resemble. This piece of artwork was created by Arthur Miller, who signed the front and back of this 40 x 33 inch canvas.
