Ron Swoboda was the first promising player to be signed by the fledgeling New York Mets. When he was called up in 1965, he had a rough time of it, even gaining the nickname “Rocky” because of his poor fielding. Swoboda persevered and vastly improved his fielding over the next three seasons, culminating in his famously iconic horizontal catch in Game 4 of the 1969 World Series. This bat was used by Swoboda during his earliest two seasons in the majors, 1966 and 1967. The Hillerich & Bradsby G69L model bat is un-cracked and shows heavy use. The barrel has many ball marks with stitch impressions and some dead wood on the back barrel from repeated ball contact. Swoboda’s number “4” is hand written on the knob end. A great gamer from one of the earliest Mets stars. This bat comes with a full LOA from MEARS (311000) for the game use and has been graded an A9.
