In 1942 the Washington Redskins took the fledgling NFL by storm, compiling a 10-1 record in the regular season. They faced off against the mighty Chicago Bears in the championship game, defeating them 14-6 in a vintage NFL performance. In this panoramic picture, 37 Redskins players and coaches are pictured standing in a line on their home field, clad in full uniform. White text on the bottom of the photograph reads “1942 Washington Redskins World’s Champions.”
The 1942 Redskins featured Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh, one of the most versatile players of all-time. All of the members of the ’42 Redskins are shown in this picture, including Baugh, Andy Farkas, Dick Poillon, Bob Masterson, and many more. The teams’ mascot, a child named Frank Spicer, is pictured holding on to a dog, The Dutchess. Over all the players and coaches is a white inscription bearing their names, positions, and the college or university they graduated from.
