Coming out of high school in Jacksonville, FL, Jamar Hornsby was rated the No. 3 safety in the nation by Scouts.com and the No. 13 athlete by Rivals.com. He started his collegiate career with Urban Meyer's Florida Gators, but ultimately left due to legal troubles. Fortunately, he got a second chance and became a star at Tuskegee University—the most elite gridiron program among historically black colleges. A team leader, Hornsby even got praise from his hero Ray Lewis prior to the 2012 Turkey Day Classic. Hornsby recalled his discussion with the Ravens legend this way: "Pretty much [told me] that he liked my game. But coming from a small-time school I gotta do more to be seen...Literally, I had chills the whole conversation." Manufactured by Jostens, Hornsby's 10K-white-gold, size 11-1/2 ring hails from Florida's second national championship, which coincided with the centennial anniversary of Gator football. A numeral "1" is inset within a faceted, football-shaped blue stone, and there's a nice enameled logo on one shank. The large, substantial showpiece rates NM condition. Accompanied by a 2007 purchase LOA, Jostens box and Jostens warranty card. It is important to note that since 2002, NCAA national-championship teams usually receive two ringsāone from their school dated with the season year, and the other from the BCS championship game dated with the following year (post-New Year's). This is the latter, more valuable, more rare 2007 BCS ring awarded only to the Florida players and coaches.
