Featured is a Daily News newspaper dedicated to the death of New York Yankee player and captain Thurman Munson. A catcher, Munson showed early promise early in his career, earning himself Rookie of the Year in 1970. He would go on to prove himself by earning the right to become captain in leading the Yankees to two consecutive World Series wins in 1977 and 1978. Tragedy struck however, when in August 2, 1979, he died in a plane crash, in which he was attempting to land his Cessna plane at the Akron-Canton Regional Airport. This newspaper covers his tragic death almost a week after the incident. This paper is dated August 8th, 1979 and is headlined: YANKS MUNSON KILLED IN CRASH. The newspaper displays toning, but the print is still readable.
