Featured is a lot of three newspapers covering Roger Maris’ home runs 59, 60 and 61. This lot includes two Daily News newspapers and one New York Mirror. During the 1961 season, New York Yankees standouts Roger Maris and legendary Mickey Mantle chased Babe Ruth’s then single-season record 60 home runs. The highly publicized rivalry saw the M&M boys come close to breaking the record, with Maris being the first to break it, while Mantle fell behind, having his season end due to injury. These three newspapers cover Maris’ legendary feat. Each newspaper covers a different home run: Daily news (59), New York Mirror (60), Daily News (61). All three newspapers are in incredible condition, with no major tears, or stains to the face of the paper, and very little to no tears on the pages. These papers truly capture a major accomplishment for one of the Yankees’ most famous players. These papers are a great addition to any Yankee or Maris collection!
