Featured is a Cincinnati Daily Commercial newspaper covering the death of Abraham Lincoln. The 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln led the United States to its victory over the Confederacy and preserved the Union, abolishing slavery in the process and strengthening the federal government. Seen as both a hero and a villain, Lincoln would become the target of an assassination on April 15, 1865 at Ford’s Theatre, at the hands of John Wilkes Booth. This news paper covered the events two days later, dated April 17, 1865. The paper further accuses Wilkes Booth, and details why he was the main suspect. This newspaper shows obvious signs of aging such as several yellow stains all over the pages. Though the papers are heavily stained, they do not deface any of the print, as they are all still fully legible. The paper has no signs of tearing and is in otherwise good condition. This paper truly captures the vividness of a torn country after the death of Lincoln, and is a must for the serious American history collector.
