Since the 1960’s, no artist has captured the excitement and action of American sports than LeRoy Neiman. The artist’s color infused expressionist style has become almost synonymous with the term “sports art”. Even more dynamic than his serigraphs are his gestural figure studies often executed right on the court or field of play. This dynamic illustration is rendered by the master in conte crayon and felt tip pen and captures Dean Meminger about to break for a shot at the basket. Neiman has written the name of his subject in black pen and inscribed “Madison Sq. Garden” in conte crayon. The artist has signed the lower right portion in pencil and dated it “5.5.72”. The 11 x 14 inch drawing has been professionally matted and framed to 21 x 24 ½ inch dimension. There is some wear to the frame such as corner wear and abrasions and the drawing itself is well preserved. This drawing comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A03136).
