Featured is a black and white photograph of the legendary pitcher and Hall of Famer Charles “Chief” Bender. A member of the Ojibwe tribe, Bender would become among the best pitchers in Major League history. A three-time World Series Champion, Chief Bender is notable for tying a record by pitching three complete games in a single World Series. This photograph shows a very old aged Bender sporting the Philadelphia Athletics Uniform (As he served as talent scout in his later years), as he poses for the camera. Bender has signed the bottom of the photo in led pencil and inscribed “Best Wishes 1953”. This photo is both matted and framed standing 14 x 16 inches and comes with a prior JSA Auction Letter and has been pre-certified by Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication.
