While Babe Ruth’s public persona was that of a boisterous, fun loving lout, the private Babe was an introspective fellow who possessed an extremely keen mind for baseball. He laid out his thoughts on baseball and a retrospective of his life and career in this 1928 book, “Babe Ruth’s Own Book of Baseball.” An extremely popular book in its time, this copy is from the second printing in April of 1928. The book is filled with gorgeous old photos of Babe, the Yanks, and other old time ballplayers, some of which serve as instructional tools for young players.

The front and back cover of this book are a deep royal blue, with gold text. A small logo featuring two crossed bats and four baseballs is embossed on the front bottom right corner. This book was published by G.P. Putnam’s Sons in New York City. The spine of the book is a subdued olive green. The book is in wonderful condition when taking into account the age, with light fraying present on the spine. The Great Bambino himself signed the page before the cover page in black steel-tip fountain pen. He added the inscription, “To Johnny Comosh Jr. From Babe Ruth”. The signature presents beautifully, and is abundantly clear. This book has been authenticated by JSA and comes with an LOA (Z19757). Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
