Jackie Robinson 70th anniversary auction to benefit JRF ending April 29
The 1950 Brooklyn Dodgers battled the Philadelphia Phillies up until the last day of the season, but ultimately finished two games back for the National League pennant. 1950 was also a significant year for the Dodgers as it was the last season for Branch Rickey as part owner and club president and the debut season for broadcaster Vin Scully, who finished an incredible 67-year run as the team’s announcer in 2016.
25 members of the 1950 Brooklyn Dodgers have signed this baseball on this Official National League Ford C. Frick baseball. Making this ball special is Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson, who signed this ball on two separate panels. The north panel has the signatures of Spider Jorgensen, Cal Abrams, Robinson, Gil Hodges and Hall of Famer Branch Rickey, who inscribed “To John From”. The sweet spot has the clubhouse signature of manager Burt Shotton, which was signed “B.E. Shotton”. The south panel also has Robinson’s signature, along with the autographs of Bill Antonello, Preacher Roe, Clem Labine, Erv Palica (clubhouse signature), Bob Morgan and Billy Cox. The east panel with the “THE CUSHIONED CORK CENTER SPALDING” stamp has the signatures of Don Newcombe, Hall of Famer Roy Campanella, Pat McGlothin and Rex Barney. The west panel has the signatures of George Shuba, Dan Bankhead, Joe Hatten, Will Ramsdell, Bruce Edwards, Clarence Podbielan, Jack Banta and Billy Loes. The ball is in good condition, only displaying minor toning. The SPALDING stamp is only slightly faded and the commissioner’s stamp is light but still readable. This baseball comes with a full LOA from JSA (Z24742) and a letter from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication, who have graded the signatures a MINT 9.
