The 1972 NFL season for the Miami Dolphins was mere perfection. They completely obliterated the opposition, finishing the regular with an undefeated 14-0 record. The Dolphins ranked first in the league for most points scored as well as fewest points allowed. Their season was topped with a victory over the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII. So what could Miami possibly do for an encore in 1973? The answer was quite evident. While they didn’t go undefeated (they finished the regular season 12-2), the Dolphins again were the powerhouse of the NFL.

     The 1973 Dolphins allowed a league-low 150 points (10.7 per game) and became back-to-back champions with a win over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl VIII. Jesse Powell was a linebacker on both of the 1972 and 1973 Miami teams. Presented here is Powell’s 1973 Super Bowl ring. Manufactured by Jostens, this 10K gold ring weighs 40.4 grams and is sized approximately 11 ¾. The ring’s face features two larger diamonds representing the team’s consecutive Super Bowl victories. It shows normal wear. “MIAMI DOLPHINS 72 73 WORLD CHAMPIONS” appears in relief. The right shank of the ring displays the player name “POWELL” and number 56, along with the Dolphins logo. The left side is exquisite. An image of the Lombardi trophy is displayed in the middle, surrounded by banners containing Miami’s opponents and scores of Super Bowls VII and VIII. The words “BACK TO BACK” are below. The inside of the ring is marked “JOSTENS 10K” and engraved “Jessie Powell” in cursive. The only other 1973 Dolphins player ring to be publicly sold was sold by us in 2015 for over $66,000 (Bob Heinz). Ring comes with a PSA/DNA LOA verifying its authenticity.
