As the first baseman of Connie Mack’s 1929-1931 pennant machine, Jimmie Foxx slugged an even 100 home runs, putting him in the same elite stratosphere as Babe Ruth. In fact, during the late 1920’s and 1930’s, only Jimmie Foxx could claim to be Ruth’s equal in home run production. “Double X” made the first serious run at Ruth’s hallowed 60 home run record when he clubbed 58 round trippers in 1932, and the next year he did what the Babe had failed to do - win Triple Crown Award.

When the three-time MVP winner retired in 1945, he had amassed 534 home runs, second only to the Babe, and left a career batting average of .325. Due to the rapid decline in Foxx's health and death at the early age of 59, anything signed by "The Beast" is eagerly sought by collectors - but a single-signed ball is a whole other story. Since Foxx passed before the baseball memorabilia boom of the 1970's and 1980's, there is a dearth of baseballs bearing his solo signature, as not many people thought to seek one during his lifetime. “Double X” has perfectly signed the sweet spot in blue ball point, even adding a flourish under his name. He added “Regards” on the panel above, making this a very attractive generically inscribed ball. The 1959-70 Reach Official American League ball shows only light toning from age and the blue ball point projects nicely from the light cream surface. About as flawless as Jimmie Foxx’s home run swing. We previously sold a graded 8.5 for $58,000 in 2013 and this one tops that in quality, plus its on an official American League baseball. This ball comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication, who have graded this ball a MINT 9 and a LOA from JSA (Z24410) for the signature.
