Jackie Robinson 70th anniversary auction to benefit JRF ending April 29
In a back and forth series, the Detroit Tigers ultimately won a close battle with the New York Yankees in the 2011 Division Series. In the deciding Game 5, Detroit jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning and held on to the 3-2 victory.
Yankees closer and soon-to-be Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera wore this size 46 button-down Yankees white pinstripe jersey during the home games of the 2011 Division Series. Rivera pitched a scoreless ninth inning giving the Yankees a chance to mount a comeback in the deciding game, but the Yankees couldn’t muster the tying or winning runs. Rivera finished the series pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings with a strikeout and no walks or hits in his last ever postseason appearance. This pinstripe jersey features the iconic interlocking “NY” sewn on the upper left chest in navy blue tackle twill. Rivera’s “42” is sewn on the back of the jersey in navy blue tackle twill and a MLB logo patch is sewn on the upper back neck in navy blue, white and gray. Rivera, of course, was the last player to wear the number 42 as that historic number was retired by all of Major League baseball in 1997 to honor the late Jackie Robinson. The Majestic tag is sewn on the bottom front left tail with a “2011” and “46” flags. There is also a New York Yankees bar code tag affixed below the Majestic tag numbered 0000001581.
The “Sandman’ signed his name on the back of the jersey on the center bar of the “4” and inscribed “Game Used 11” on the center bar of the “2” on the back of the jersey in silver marker. This jersey shows moderate game use and comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (FJ896070), which authenticates this jersey’s use for Game 5 and a full LOA from Steiner Sports, which authenticates this jersey’s use for the ALDS. There is also an additional COA from Steiner Sports for Rivera’s signature.
