The 1926 New York Yankees were the first Yankee squad to truly coalesce around the surreal talent of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig together. Ruth hit 47 towering home runs and 153 RBI with a .372 batting average. Gehrig hit only 16 home runs, but chipped in 109 RBI and a .313 batting average. This team was one of the first iterations of the Yankees fearsome “Murderer’s Row” lineup, winning the American League pennant and advancing to the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Although they lost in a seven game series, the Yankees proved that their dynasty was ready to take over baseball.

12 members of the 1926 New York Yankees have signed this Official American League baseball bearing the stamped signature of American League President Ban Johnson. Hall of Famers Ruth, Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, and manager Miller Huggins have signed this baseball, with Ruth’s signature appearing in its customary location on the sweet spot and Gehrig on the side panel of the red and blue stitched ball. Other signatures include Bob Meusel, Mark Koenig, Pat Collins, Ben Paschal, Spencer Adams, Garland Braxton, Mike Gazella, and Honey Barnes. These signatures have been written in black pen. “May 22nd, 1926” has been inscribed to the left of the Official American League stamp. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A04478).
