It was the Upset of the Century in baseball as the “Miracle Mets” New York Mets rode their top-notch pitching to a five game Series win over the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles, who won 109 games that season. One of the key members of that historic an improbable championship team was first baseman Ed Kranepool. During a key July 8th game against the Chicago Cubs, for whom the Mets were chasing, Kranepool hit a 5th inning home run off Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins and drove in the go ahead run in the ninth inning after the Mets were trailing 3-1 entering the ninth for a walk-off 4-3 victory. This set the tone for the rest of the season as the Mets overcame a nine-game deficit on August 16th to win the newly formed American League Eastern Division. Kranepool was an original Met from the 1962 team and was a fan-favorite up until his retirement in 1979. Kranepool held team records in eight offensive categories when he hung up his spikes and was the last remaining active Met from the 1969 team.

     This World Series championship ring was presented to Kranepool. This stunning ring has a single diamond that sits atop a blue stone with “1969 NEW YORK METS WORLD CHAMPIONS” around the perimeter. One shank has an unfurled banner with “EASTERN DIVISION”, “NATIONAL LEAGUE” and “WORLD SERIES” engraved, indicating the three titles won by the Mets that season, with an image of Shea Stadium below. The other shank has the same banner, with “7”, “KRANEPOOL” and “1B”. Below this is a Mets log with crossed bats and the inside of the ring has “Ed Kranepool” engraved. Only a handful of actual 1969 New York Mets player rings have ever been put up for auction and this is the most significant.  This Jostens 10K gold, size 12 ½ ring weighs approximately 38 grams and is one of the finest examples ever offered and was worn by arguably the most popular Met in history. This ring comes with a full LOA from Ed Kranepool.
