Hall of Famer Bobby Lee Bell played his college football at the University of Minnesota and then spent his entire professional career with the Kansas City Chiefs that spanned both the American Football League and its merger with the National Football League. Playing both at defensive end and the linebacker positions, Bell was dominant force for the Chiefs’ teams that won two AFL titles and Super Bowl IV. Bell was an AFL All Star from 1964-1969 and was a first team All-Pro in 1970.

Bell, who was representing the University of Minnesota, wore this blue knit long-sleeve jersey during the 1963 Chicago Charites College All Star Game on August 2nd against the NFL’s Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field in Chicago. The talented college players upset Vince Lombardi’s defending NFL Champion Packers 20-17. This event was started in 1934 by Chicago Tribune’s Sports Editor Arch Ward and saw the college teams defeat the pros eight times prior to the 1963 game. However, that was during the early days when college teams were typically better than their professional counterparts and most of the amateur’s victories coming before 1950.

This jersey features the number “78”that is sewn on in white tackle twill on the front and back of the jersey. The shoulder cutouts are white with 10 sewn on red stars on each shoulder. The sides of the jersey are pattern in red, white and blue horizontal stripes. A red “King-O’Shea” tag along with a white patch that has handwritten “50” is sewn on the inside back right tail. The jersey shows heavy game use with stains on the white numbers and a circular tear on the front of the jersey below the “7”. This jersey comes with a full LOA from Mears, who have graded this jersey an A8.
