Graded VG 3 by PSA. Hall of Famer. Because of his absence for Korean War service, this '54 release was Williams' first gum card since the 1951 Bowman issue. (Back on the field in 1954, the great hitter rebounded with a .345 average, 29 homers and 136 RBI.) For that season, Bowman printed two versions of its card number 66. Following a dispute over his contract with Bowman, Ted Williams' collectible was pulled from production and replaced by one featuring Jim Piersall (who also appears on a card numbered "210"). This scarce, "short-printed" card of Williams reveals uniformly distributed and generally moderate evidence of past circulation at the edges and corners. The great player's image comes through brightly in a clear, attractively colored portrait; the card's reverse is solidly printed and fully legible. Very Good condition.
