Presented here is a signed carte-de-visite of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Known as “The Railsplitter”, Lincoln was a driving force behind the modernization of the American economy in the age of industry, as well as the man who formally ended the “peculiar institution” of slavery. Consistently ranked among the most successful American presidents, the immense accomplishments that Lincoln would have achieved had he survived John Wilkes Boothe’s assassination are one of the greatest “What ifs?” in American history.

This carte-de-visite measures 2 ¼ x 3 ½ inches. It was taken by Alexander Gardner, the pre-eminent photographer of his day, on August 9th, 1863, just a few months before Lincoln delivered his seminal Gettysburg Address. Lincoln is shown sitting, with his right leg crossed over his left, a newspaper clutched in his left hand and a pair of spectacles in his right. It is in remarkable condition with regards to its age, and is mostly free of wear save miniscule wear of the corners. The borders are gold-ruled, while the verso features light gray pencil writing. Lincoln signed this carte-de-visite in black pen near the bottom as “A. Lincoln”. This signature has been graded a MINT 9 by PSA/DNA, who have encapsulated and authenticated this carte-de-visite (83918876).

Outstanding President Abraham Lincoln Signed 2.25 x 3.5 Photo (PSA/DNA MINT 9)
