Presented here is an encapsulated cut signed by legendary Texas statesman Sam Houston. At different times as governor, senator, and the first president of the Republic of Texas, Sam Houston remains one of the most important people in Texas history. Houston, the only person to be elected governor of two states by popular vote, was removed from his post as governor in 1861 when he opposed Texas’ motion to secede from the United States and join the Confederacy. This cut, which measures 3 ½ x 2 inches, has been signed in black pen by Houston. This item has been encapsulated and authenticated by PSA/DNA (83842871).
