Presented is a lot of three items from Hall of Famer and Ironman Cal Ripken, Jr. Ripken spent 20+ years manning the shortstop and third base position for the Baltimore Orioles and leading them to the 1983 World Series title. Ripken broke Lou Gehrig’s consecutive games streak when he played in his 2,131st straight game on September 6, 1995 and ultimately finished with playing in 2,632 consecutive games, a streak that will likely never be broken.
The first item offered is a framed cover the May 1, 1995 issue of Sports Illustrated with Ripken on the cover titled “The Player’s Player Oriole iron man Cal Ripken Jr. plays the game better than anyone else”. Ripken signed his name on the cover in black marker below his face. The cover has been matted and framed to a dimension of 12 ¼ x 16 ½ inches and has a gold plate in the matting that reads “CAL RIPKEN JR. BALTIMORE ORIOLES LIMITED EDITION 188/300” and has the Orioles logo and Ripken’s facsimile signature on the left. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A82322).
The other two items in this lot are single-signed baseballs by Ripken. The first ball Ripken signed his name on the sweet spot of this Official American League Bobby Brown baseball. The ball displays minor toning, but all of the blue stampings are bold and Ripken’s signature displays prominently. This ball coms with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C42291). The second baseball is an Official Ball 2000 All-Star Game Allan H. Selig baseball. Ripken signed his name in blue pen below the “Atlanta ALL*STAR GAME 2000” logo stamped in red. This ball has red and blue stripes and displays nicely. This item comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C42290).
