In 1984, the Kansas City Royals finished the regular season with a record of 84-78, good for first place in the American League West. Although they lost to the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS, the season was a success as the Royals continued their development, Steve “Bye-Bye” Balboni crushed 28 homers, and Bret Saberhagen made his MLB debut. In 1985, the Royals would claim the first World Series title in franchise history.
